Medical Director, Veterinarian - 3 Years at Sand Road

Dr. Dana Baruffo grew up in nearby Dutchess County, NY. She studied biology and anthropology at SUNY Stony Brook University prior to moving to the Caribbean to study veterinary medicine. Despite the distractions of living near one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, Dr. Dana graduated summa cum laude with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from St. George’s University in 2015. Following graduation, she completed a fellowship at the Trevor Zoo while also working at a local animal hospital. In 2019, Dr. Dana joined the Sand Road Animal Hospital family.

Dr. Dana is looking forward to expanding her talents into her new role as Sand Road’s Medical Director, in order to ensure that our clients and patients receive the best care possible.

Dr. Dana currently resides in New Milford, CT with her husband Nick, three dogs, one cat, and many fish. In her limited free time, she enjoys fishing, camping, and hiking.

Founder, Veterinarian - 34 Years at Sand Road

Dr. Dave Sandefer grew up on a dairy farm in upstate New York. Even as a boy he knew his calling, he wanted to be a veterinarian.

Throughout high school, he worked with a variety of dogs, cats, and farm animals, first as a caregiver and eventually as a technician. He worked in a veterinary hospital while pursuing a degree in animal science from Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Science, and later at Cornell's large animal hospital as he followed up his studies at the College of Veterinary Medicine.

After graduating in 1983 with awards for excellence, he returned to his roots in upstate New York to work as an associate in a busy mixed animal hospital. Then, in 1987, he and his wife Cindy took a trip that changed their lives. On a visit to the northwest corner of Connecticut, they met Dr. Larry Washington, who had four years earlier, started a small animal clinic in Falls Village. They bought the practice on a wing and a prayer and, over the years, molded it into the full service facility it is today.

Veterinarian - 21 Years at Sand Road

Dr. Amy Damers earned her degree in veterinary medicine at Cornell University in the year 2000.

After graduation she set out to find a job in Connecticut to be near her family and fiancé. While considering five different job offers, she decided on a whim to make the long trip to northwest Connecticut to interview at one last practice, Sand Road Animal Hospital. She describes the experience as a moment of Zen. Sand Road was the embodiment of everything she dreamed a veterinary practice could be: a state-of-the art facility in a beautiful setting, with a team of talented doctors and a dedicated staff committed to bettering the lives of animals. She joined the practice and has never looked back.

Dr. Amy grew up in New York on Long Island and is the youngest of six children. She graduated magna cum laude from Villanova University and did post-graduate study and research at S.U.N.Y. in Stony Brook. She is a strong advocate of preventative medicine and, in addition to cats and dogs, enjoys working with "pocket pets" such as rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets.

Veterinarian - 15 Years at Sand Road

Dr. Jen Jones has had a life long love of animals. She grew up in Hershey, PA and aspired to be a veterinarian from a very young age. She was an avid pony clubber and spent much of her free time during high school and college working in small animal hospitals and at a local thoroughbred racetrack.

Dr. Jen completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Vermont, studying both in Burlington, VT and Christ Church in New Zealand. She graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor degree in Animal Science. She then moved to Colorado where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University's School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

For six years after graduating, she enjoyed all facets of being an equine veterinarian as an associate at Rhinebeck Equine in Rhinebeck, NY. She started treating dogs and cats after completing training in acupuncture from Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine and chiropractic care. This began her fulfilling transition to small animal practice. She enjoyed a successful house call practice in Hudson Valley, but found she missed the stimulation and collaboration of being part of a larger practice. Since 2006, she has enjoyed a rewarding career working at the Sand Road Animal Hospital. It is here she has been able to offer compassionate care to 4-legged family members in our region while collaborating with a team of very talented doctors and support staff. Her special interests include ultrasonography, dentistry, and dermatology.

Dr. Jen spends her time outside of professional practice with her 2 daughters, 1 Labrador, cats, and bunnies. She enjoys skiing and hiking appreciating the beauty of the Berkshires.
