Meet Our Doctors
Amy Damers earned her Doctor
of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in the year 2000.
After graduation she set out to find a job in Connecticut
to be near her family and Fiancée. While considering five different
job offers she decided on a whim to make the long trip to the Northwest
corner of Connecticut to interview at one last practice. She describes
the experience as a moment of Zen. Within minutes of arriving she realized
the Sand Road Animal Hospital was the embodiment of everything she
dreamed a veterinary practice could be… beautiful setting, state
of the art equipment and a group of talented and dedicated people
committed to bettering the lives of animals and their people.
Dr. Amy grew up in New York on Long Island and is the youngest
of 6 children. She graduated Magna cum Laude from Villanova University
and did some post-graduate study and research at S.U.N.Y. Stony
Brook. She currently resides in Sheffield, Massachusetts with
her Husband Robert and their son Benjamin. Their home is made
complete by 3 wonderful dogs (Golden Retriever, Boxer and Lab)
and two very cool cats. In her free time she enjoys drawing,
kayaking (with the dogs paddling behind the boat of course) and
skiing.
As a veterinarian, Dr. Damers enjoys the research involved in
challenging medical cases. She is an advocate of every aspect
of preventative medicine, such as dental prophylaxis and screening
blood and urine tests, in an effort to either prevent disease
or treat it early on. She enjoys working with “pocket pets” such
as rabbits, ferrets and even reptiles. Some of her other interest
include using the ultrasound unit for diagnostic imaging and
helping patients with cancer.
