Meet Our Doctors
Dr.
Carolyn Parker Cannon, “Dr. Carrie,” joined the Sand Road
Animal Hospital as a full-time associate in December of 1991.
She was born in New Milford, Connecticut, the seventh of nine children
and
an extended family of horses, ponies, dogs, and cats. As a 4-H
member and officer for several years she competed in local horse shows
and
competitive trail rides. She attended the University of Connecticut
as an animal science major. There she assisted in the training
of young Morgan horses. She worked as a veterinary technician in Washington
and Kent, Connecticut during her undergraduate years. Dr. Cannon
graduated
from Western Connecticut State University magna cum laude with
a Bachelor of Arts in biology.
She attended the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine
and was inducted into Phi Zeta, the veterinary medicine honor society,
in 1989. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in
1990. Since then she has been a practitioner of small and large animal
medicine and surgery with a special interest in canine reproduction.
Dr. Cannon practices veterinary medicine from a holistic perspective
and uses alternative and complementary therapies when indicated to
augment her work. She studied acupuncture in a program initiated
by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2001 at Tufts
University and completed post-doctoral training in veterinary chiropractic
in January, 2005.
Dr. Cannon serves on the advisory board for the veterinary technician
program at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. She resides
in Falls Village with her husband, Vance, daughters Taylor and Jillian,
and an extended family of horses, donkey, birds, dog and cats.
