Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Carolyn Parker Cannon, “Dr. Carrie,” joined the Sand Road Animal Hospital as a full-time associate in December of 1991. She was born in New Milford, Connecticut, the seventh of nine children and an extended family of horses, ponies, dogs, and cats. As a 4-H member and officer for several years she competed in local horse shows and competitive trail rides. She attended the University of Connecticut as an animal science major. There she assisted in the training of young Morgan horses. She worked as a veterinary technician in Washington and Kent, Connecticut during her undergraduate years. Dr. Cannon graduated from Western Connecticut State University magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in biology.

She attended the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and was inducted into Phi Zeta, the veterinary medicine honor society, in 1989. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1990. Since then she has been a practitioner of small and large animal medicine and surgery with a special interest in canine reproduction. Dr. Cannon practices veterinary medicine from a holistic perspective and uses alternative and complementary therapies when indicated to augment her work. She studied acupuncture in a program initiated by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2001 at Tufts University and completed post-doctoral training in veterinary chiropractic in January, 2005.

Dr. Cannon serves on the advisory board for the veterinary technician program at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. She resides in Falls Village with her husband, Vance, daughters Taylor and Jillian, and an extended family of horses, donkey, birds, dog and cats.
