Krista Barger has always enjoyed working with dogs. Having grown up with a Dad on the Police force and in charge of training the police dogs, Krista learned at an early age the intelligence and devotion of dogs. Thus, a dog's loyalty and dedication to pleasing their human partners impressed her at an early age. Having police dogs in the household allowed Krista to experience first hand the potentional bond that people and pets can share if only given the chance. Krista knew when she grew up she wanted to tap into that intelligent, loyal energy of dogs and make the bond between people and pets even stronger. After graduating top of her class in high school, Krista left the area to follow her passion of training dogs gaining much needed hands on experience in Virginia and Texas. She spent time working in pet facilities taking on more and more manager responsibilities and improving her communication and training skills with dogs.
Krista decided to further her knowledge of dogs by attending Triple Crown Academy for Professional Dog Trainers. She graduated in May 2007 as a Certified Canine Training and Behavior Specialist. She believes in a positive approach to training; thus making it fun for dog and owner.
She competes in agility with Pebbles, a mini Australian shepherd/dachshund mix. Pebbles has earned the title of Canine Good Citizen and Krista and Pebbles are working towards being registered with Delta as pet partners therapy dogs. Krista also has a cat, Sparky and Papillion, Brady; who is beginning his training.
Sand Road Animal Hospital feels very fortunate that Krista has decided to return to the area and join our staff once again. To have someone of Krista capabilities on staff to help with the communication needs between people and pets allows us to offer some exciting new services. Krista will be holding puppy training classes as well as obedience classes at our veterinary hospital. Krista is also available for private sessions with dog and owner.
