IMMEDIATE OPENINGS:
Receptionist & Animal
Care Provider
We have immediate openings
in our Receptionist Department. The current starting pay is $10.00/hour.
We are looking for applicants that are willing to share some of
the burden of weekends and evenings shift. This position can be
full or part-time depending on your needs. Our benefit package
for full-time employees if very competitive.
We welcome your interest
in other departments as well. While we do not have any immediate
openings, the demands of providing flexible scheduling for our
current 47 staff members creates job opportunities we often cannot
anticipate.
Receptionist:
The old adage is true: “You
never get a second chance to make a first impression”. Our
receptionist serves as our customer care specialist. The
way our clients are first greeted is a
reflection on all of us. Candidates must truly possess a desire
to work with
the public and enjoy helping people. The work environment our
employees must function in is fast paced, demanding, and at
times very stressful.
Our employees have to learn how to work effectively as a team.
There are usually 6 to 8 immediate team members working closely
together per shift in this department. Computer skills a
must.
Training is usually a
6 month process before employees begin to relax and feel
a sense of confidence and independence. During this
initial six months process, the new employees often feel frustrated
by their lack of knowledge, training and their need to multi
task and achieve the demands of their job successfully. The
receptionist must be trained on our phone system which handles
over 200
calls
a day. Mastering our computer system is one of the first challenges
as well. They must also learn our medical records system, admitting
and discharging patients and basic pharmacology. In addition,
employees must learn how to properly respond to the enormous
volume of pet
related questions. While this job has its stressful moments,
what keeps employees coming back to work each day is the
satisfaction of knowing they have made a difference in people
and pets lives.
This job is one of service and giving to others, in doing so
you
always get so much more back in return.
This department is staffed
from 7:30 am to 11 pm Monday – Friday,
7:30 am to 5 pm on Saturday and from 7:30 am to 2 pm on Sunday
Animal Care Provider/Kitty
Kottage
CATS,
CATS, CATS and more CATS! This is a job for the extreme cat lover.
Our guests are located in their own building with their own demanding
sense of perfection. Feeding, cleaning, medicating, holding and
loving these feline companions is your most important job of the
day. Charting and attention to detail is a must. The ability to
determine our guest normal behavior from abnormal is a critical
element we are looking for in an employee. The hours are great
too. This is a perfect position for a Mom who is just looking for
a few hours during the school day or person who wants a part-time
job with flexible hours. This department is staffed 7 days a week
and hours vary depending on the number of guest.
Animal Care Providers
/ Hospital
Our hospital cares for many patients each day. Some of them are
sick, some recovering from surgery, and some have been dropped off
for evaluations for the day. Animal care providers must be nurturing
and kind by nature. They must have keen assessment skills and the
ability to communicate their thoughts effectively to the doctors
and other team members.
Candidates must be able to multitask and take direction from multiple
people without getting flustered. The responsibility of caring for
animals is not to be taken lightly. We require a great deal of documentation
in this role as well. Good record keeping and attention to detail
is a must. Computer skills are helpful. You must be able to lift
at least 50 lbs, be on your feet all day, and move at a fast past
with a demanding schedule. The rewards of this job are many. Animals
are very appreciative and give so much more love back than we will
ever be capable of giving to them. It is wonderful to see very sick
pets reunited with their families, knowing that would not have been
possible without your efforts and the rest of the team. This department
is staff 7am to 11pm or later -- 7 days a week
Animal Care Provider/Canine Boarding Facility
If you love dogs this is the place for you. We have 35-40 dogs that
we feed, clean and care for everyday. They are happy, healthy, and
excited about their trip away from home.
They are also very loud
and full of energy – so patience,
and noise tolerance is a must. You will be required to perform tasks
such as: hosing the runs, cleaning the inside of the cages, feeding,
and giving oral medications. You will be expected to learn what is “normal
behavior” for our guests quickly, so if they are having an
off day you will notice immediately. There is lots of charting
in this job- so attention to detail is a must. We also offer our
guest
individual playtimes, and baths which is also done by the animal
care providers. This job is a lot like farm work in the fact
the chores need to get done regardless of the weather. You must be
willing
to work outdoors despite the rain, snow, heat or cold. With
canine sleepovers and baths there is always tons of laundry. This
department
is responsible for getting all the laundry done for both the
hospital and boarding facility. Computer skills are helpful.
Hours are 7am to 3 pm 7 days a week. The hospital staff assumes
responsibility for the boarding facility after 3pm. Frequently, staff
is rotated between the two departments boarding animal care and hospital
animal care.
Veterinary Technician
Our veterinary technicians work directly under the supervision of
the doctors. They are held to the highest standards as a patient
advocate and client liaison. Their level of responsibility is extremely
high. They must have strong technical skills, communication skills
and team building skills. Computer skills required. They have responsibilities
in running our In- Laboratory, Radiology Department, Treatment Room,
Surgery Room, and assisting in our Office appointments. Each Veterinary
Technician is given opportunities to grow and diversify in her career.
Many of our Technicians have started with us as Animal Care providers
and developed their skills to that of a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
This department is staffed from 7am to 11pm or later, 7 days a week.
Retail Store
Our retail store specializes
in catering to the most discriminating shopper be it “ Man or Beast”.
Employees in this department need to learn a lot about pet health
and nutrition.
The desire to educate and socialize with people is a must. We want
our clients to relax and feel at home with us while they shop. Your
ability to make them feel comfortable is a key attribute we are looking
for. You must also be able to carry 50 pound bags of food. This job
requires a lot of lifting and restocking of heavy items.
You also need computer
skills. The store is staffed from 8am to 6:30 pm Monday – Friday
and from 8am to 5:30 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 2pm on Sunday.
Professional Groomer
We have 2 grooming salons on site. We offer professional grooming
3 days a week and light grooming and bathing services 5 days a week.
We are always interested in meeting other groomers that share our
same passion for the profession. Our mission is to help pets maintain
healthy skin and coats while enjoying a positive relaxed experience
every time they visit us. If you are a groomer, you know what a challenging,
demanding job this can be. We would love to meet you and give you
a tour of our facility.
Student Internships
One of our most rewarding experiences is participating in school
internship programs. We serve as a host location for many students
that need a certain number of hours to complete their educational
requirements either on a high school or college level. These postitions
usually run for 1 or 2 semesters, but have been known to run longer.
We generally have 4-6 students per semester. Students generally start
in an animal care position, unless they are in a veterinary technology
program with specific requirements.
The majority of our Internship positions are paid. The student must
be at least 16 years of age and have references from their teachers.
